About ME
Meet Cat
Cat, is short for Catherine, since moving to Canada in 2007 it has become a friendly, familiar name I like to go by. I was born and grew up in South West London, UK. While we didn't have rescue dogs we did have unwanted Chihuahuas which were bred as show dogs but didn't make the cut. We had 4 Chihuahuas and 1 Japanese Chin called Teddy. A few had medical problems such as epilepsy and one had a hole in his heart. We loved them dearly and they lived a long and happy life.
My passion for photography came at a young age, I was always taking pictures and interested in all kinds of cameras. In college, I took a photography course, this was the days of black and white 35mm film and I spent a lot of time in the darkroom. I studied Digital Media at University and received a BSc(Hons) Degree in MediaLab Arts and then went on to become a web designer, working my way up to Creative Director at a large advertising agency.
In my 20s I had a thirst for travel, so I put my backpack on and travelled solo through Australia and New Zealand, Central and South America and some of the Far East taking photos all the way. I had travelled to Vancouver, Canada a few times and fell in love with it. When it was finally time to put down some roots, I decided the great outdoors is where I wanted to be and relocated in my early 30s.
Settling in, I worked as a digital designer and volunteered for the BCSPCA which led to our first rescue dog, Karma who taught me so much and made me feel complete. After moving around every year I finally bought a house and had a family, it was the first time I truly felt 'home' and that I was going to stick around.
After a few years, I followed my dreams of having my own photography business. I feel so grateful to have a beautiful family and to live in such magnificent surroundings, where the mountains meet the sea and the forests are minutes away from home.
I still love exploring the province, camping is our favourite pastime where the whole family ditches their devices and gets out into nature.
We adopted Maggie in 2020 and feel blessed to have another perfect rescue dog. Both Karma and Maggie were my inspirations for starting the Rescue Book Project.
